Color Pigment Additives for Concrete

Color Pigment Additives for Concrete
Smart Building Index Product Overview
Davis Colors are color pigment additives that are mixed into fresh concrete to give it a natural-looking color hue that is as durable and long-lasting as the concrete surface.

Product Description, Applications
With the ability to create an artistic palette of shades and colors, Davis Colors provide designers with an added dimension in concrete construction. The pigments transform plain gray concrete to allow for a wide range of visual effects, from dramatic and breathtaking to soft and subtle. Earth tone pigments reduce the glare of concrete. Red and green hues can create bold statements. Colored concrete can be simple trowel or form finished, or special treatments, such as patterning and texturing, can be applied to create more stunning effects.
Incorporating Davis Colors in concrete work unifies building, walkway and landscaping elements. There are premium colors which are bold and intense, standard colors that cost less than a dollar per square foot, and subtle shades for any budget. In addition to concrete, Davis Colors are used in concrete masonry, stucco, plaster, mortar, terrazzo, cast stone, concrete pavers and roof tiles.

Materials
Davis Colors are produced from pure, concentrated pigments. The high quality mineral oxides are recycled from iron or refined from the earth, and are specially processed for mixing in concrete.

Properties, Performance

  • Meet or exceed ASTM C979 for Pigments for Integrally Colored Concrete
  • Lightfast; weather resistant; alkali resistant
  • Long-term color retention and performance

Capabilities, Services
Concrete suppliers add Davis Colors to the mix using the Chameleon™ automatic dosing system or Mix-Ready® disintegrating bags. The Chameleon is a computer-controlled automatic dosing system that improves color accuracy and handling efficiency and enables concrete producers to make thousands of shades available instantly. Mix-Ready bags are tossed into the mix without opening or pouring. They disintegrate under mixing action, leaving no bags to throw away in the environment. Colored concrete can be installed with tools and techniques similar to uncolored concrete. Because little or no additional labor is required to add integral colors to the mix, Davis Colors offer an economical method for coloring concrete.
